Towards the end of the novel, Charlie begins to face another difficult moment in his life. His friends are going to school and he doesn't feel the same anymore. He thanks his friend by saying, “I want to thank you for being one of those people who listens and understands and doesn't try to sleep with people even though you could have. I mean it, and I'm sorry that I put you through this when you don't even know who I am, and we've never met in person, and I can't tell you who I am because I promised to keep all those little secrets” (206). Even though this friend and Charlie don't know each other, they still remain faithful to each other. Charlie truly appreciates the loyalty this friend has for him.
