I accept most of Dan Ariely's arguments/ideas in this video. But there are some points where I wouldn't agree with him. The author argued that the number of bionicles built in the second condition of the experiment was fewer than those built in the first condition because the bionicles were dismantled in front of people. I would like to argue against him since people have been told that the bionicles will be disassembled and used for the next participants. People know that the bionicles they have built will sooner or later be dismantled. It makes no difference what time they were dismantled, considering that people know the truth that they will be dismantled sooner or later. Most children play with Legos. Despite knowing the truth that they would have to take them down and put them back by the end of the day, kids would still love to play with them. Assuming that the people on whom the experiment was performed were adults, it makes no sense that people would be disappointed when they know that their bionicles would be destroyed since they know that...
