Ho Chi Minh's legacy as the liberator of Vietnam was born out of his unshakeable beliefs and determination to liberate the Vietnamese from the French and eliminate the opposition. Ho Chi Minh's ability to force the French to retreat earned him many supporters such as the Vietminh and Vietcong, who would later aid in the unification of Vietnam under Ho. Ho Chi Minh's reign was full of deception for the people; although he founded the Vietminh to help Vietnam, the Vietminh ended up only supporting his ideas resulting in a communist Vietnam that Ho desired. Ho Chi Minh's ability to seize the perfect opportunity to eliminate countries from becoming a major threat helped him liberate Vietnam and gain the support of the Vietnamese people. I founded the Vietminh thanks to the inspiration it drew from the Bolshevik revolution. In 1930, after witnessing the Bolshevik Revolution, Ho was inspired to help found the Indochinese Communist Party (History). Eleven years later, after seeing how the party could contribute to his goal, he founded his own independence league formally known as the Independence League for Vietnam, or Vietminh (Lacouture 2). The Vietminh helped him: “when Japan occupied Vietnam in 1941, he resumed contact with ICP leaders and helped found a new communist-dominated independence movement popularly known as the Vietminh, which fought the Japanese” (Ho's Biography) . Ho Chi Minh, seeing that Japan represented a huge threat to the independence of Vietnam, decided to ask for the collaboration of the Indochinese Communist Party to have the opportunity to establish the Vietminh without problems.
