The world cried and cried over the end of World War II. All the endless massacres, fighting and violence had to stop. With one last nation, not standing, on its knees it was struggling to continue the war. This nation was Japan. The Japanese people were suffering from the burden of having a communist government and were also waiting for the end of World War II. The United States had just that, the end of World War II. This finale came in the form of a 9,700-pound bomb called "Little Boy." This atomic bomb was dropped on the people of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 at exactly 8:15 am on Monday. It has been argued that we should or should not have dropped the bomb on Hiroshima because of the side effects of the bomb. But I believe that dropping the atomic bomb had more benefits than the results that would have occurred if we hadn't done it. For starters, if we had invaded Japan, it would have caused many more deaths than has already been done. A rough estimate within the first thirty days of the invasion is over 31,000 deaths (Barnes 1). Other studies show that this quantity has the potential due to kamikaze attacks and heavy anti-aircraft fire from the Japanese (Barnes 1). If we could send troops to the ground from above we would have to face another problem which would be firepower. The heavily dug in Japanese would unleash a lot of resistance towards us, the kamikaze attacks only demonstrate it. The Japanese were willing to die for their country. Japan was in no way willing to face inevitable defeat without a fight. Another reason supporting why we should not invade is that we have already invaded other Japanese-owned islands and this has exhausted our soldiers. This does not include the horrendous invasion of Normandy which had a...... middle of paper......tive. There is no war without sacrifices and the use of the atomic bomb proves it. Dropping the bomb was the only option with the least backfire that would occur. This decision was like a double-edged sword and dropping the bomb on civilians was the sacrifice we made. Ultimately the bomb saved lives by not having to have any more wars and simply to put an end to that was why I chose to end the war that way. Even though we had to drop the bomb, the lives of the people who were taken away by the bomb were not in vain. The continuation of the war would have caused only double the deaths of those caused by the bomb. Sometimes you have to go to a certain point to achieve something, especially in war. Whether it's killing innocents with a bomb or having to destroy families by sending their loved ones abroad, those are the consequences of war, those are sacrifices.
