Society faces inequality; this sense of injustice towards others who seem to be separated from the supposed norms of civilization. Those people who may have a different skin tone, eye color, religion, or economic status than you. It reconciles the fact that it would appear that there are just over seven billion people on this earth today. Then contemplate the idea of how many individual traits there are among these seven billion. There are thousands of ways in which individuals differ from one another. So think, what do you have in common with these individuals? You are just a character, mixed in with most of society; you can breathe, you can eat and drink. You have a family, a language and a culture. You have a religion to adhere to, dreams, fears and feelings of every kind imaginable. But what makes you different? What causes class hierarchy, social marginalization and social stigma? More importantly, why does one treat the other differently just because they seem to be altered by these so-called "normalities"? However, we must learn to accept and strengthen this concept of equality and understand how we encouraged the problem of inequality in the first place. Social difference is still evident in today's society. We differentiate ourselves in various ways, from distinctive characteristics to distinctive qualities. Whatever is involved, social diversity can still be defined as the degree to which one person differs from another. It is this variety effect that generates dispersion between individuals. Based on this definition, how does it evoke inequality? Although we all have our differences, such as... middle of paper ......and physical characteristics, same status and similar lifestyles. For this reason it is our human nature to be ethnocentric towards those who are different from us. This gives rise to discrimination which ultimately leads to social inequality. We must accept the fact that inequality is all around us. We can be created equal, have the right to freedom and the enlightened pursuit of happiness. However, inequality is still within our reach. It is now a necessity for society to become aware and move away from such social discomfort, treat others with the utmost respect despite their shape, finally eliminate labels on individuals and effectively progress towards the solution of equality. No matter how difficult it may prove. Then we might be able to build a more progressive society, not overshadowed by the problem of social marginalization.
