Abortion (a·bor·tion) - the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Whether it is because the child is the result of rape or because they cannot support it financially, many women around the world opt for an abortion, sometimes as a last resort. There are many methods of abortion which include medical, surgical and poison injection. While the thought of abortion may seem like a terrible and gruesome thing to some people, it does have some benefits. It benefits the future of young adults who are not ready to have a child and have their whole lives ahead of them. It also benefits the health of women whose bodies are unable to bear or give birth to a child. The earliest found evidence of abortion dates back to 1760 BC (Head, n.d.). At the time, it was a crime to have a miscarriage due to assault. The first recorded evidence of a deliberate abortion dates back to 1550 BC, from the Egyptian Ebers papyrus (Testa, n.d.). A woman who miscarried in 1075 BCE was sentenced to death because she had an abortion against her husband's wishes (Testa, n.d.). According to Chinese records, royal women in China also had abortions in the years 515 and 500 BC. Abortion was acceptable in classical Greece. This is because Greek philosophers did not think that the fetus was a real human being until it took its first breath of air. So, thanks to those philosophers, abortion was found to be morally acceptable. Even one of the greatest ancient Athenian philosophers, Aristotle, believed that if an abortion was performed in the early stages of pregnancy, it was okay. She said this because she thought that in the early stages of a pregnancy, a miscarriage would be...... middle of paper ...... having a baby is a great responsibility that requires complete attention at all times. It is a challenge for a young adult to balance a child and their education at the same time. A teen who has an abortion is more likely to move forward with their education and pursue their goals in life. While some people see abortion as a crime against humanity, others see it as something that helps the future of a mother with an unwanted child. Although it is illegal in some places, people continue to turn to professionals who perform abortions illegally, even at the risk of having health problems later. Abortion impacts the lives of young adults in multiple ways and also benefits women's health. Personally I couldn't have an abortion because in Islam a woman is not allowed to have an abortion. Whether abortion is legal or illegal, it will happen anyway.
