George Gascoigne himself seemed like an interesting man in that he had experienced many different lifestyles: being a soldier, a farmer, a member of the British parliament and finally a writer. Furthermore, I find the poem particularly interesting because it is very relatable. I've found that beauty is a very easy thing to fall in love with, and once you try to follow it, a lot of shit happens that you don't think about. But what I find most interesting is the style of the poem. The poem is a traditional sonnet with 14 lines and a final couplet. It also has iambic pentameter. This interests me because it sounds just like a Shakespearean sonnet we discussed in class. Finally, the rhyming couplet at the end of the poem is interesting. “So I wink or keep my head down, because your flaming eyes have spawned my lie.” lines 13-14. This sentence particularly strikes me because it shows a lot of emotion that the speaker feels. It shows how the girl made him suffer through the temptations of her beauty. I like the use of the word dance. I didn't know this use of the bale because in the 1500s it was used differently. This lie means immediate harm; physical torment or mental suffering.
