With over 30 Islamic terrorist attacks around the world in September alone, something needs to be done about radical Islam. All terrorist attacks, from car bombs to chemical attacks, have serious impacts on people in their immediate communities and on the world. In America we consider terrorist attacks to be a major but fairly rare problem. In predominantly Islamic countries like Syria or Egypt, they are simply part of life. While there are many ways we can address radical Islam, how we will address it is yet to be seen. To begin, let's examine the reasons for these terrorist attacks. Some radical Islamic groups believe that terrorism is a way to show that Western culture is to be frowned upon and to say that the Muslim community should oppress it as much as possible. Others hate nations like the United States not for what they are but for what they have done. By this they mean that through acts of oppression and territorial imposition the United States has made itself an enemy. Still others commit acts of terrorism only to die as martyrs in the eyes of their brothers. Next I will talk about non-radical Islamists and how they could play a vital role in the downfall of the radicals. Although radicals argue otherwise, the Quran states that Muslims should use violence only in self-defense against others and not as a means of offensive action. Most Muslims are indeed not radical people but good, kind and peaceful. They could play an important role in ending radicalism in Islam as they could challenge their Muslim brothers and sisters in their beliefs, not as enemies but as fellow believers, thus making them virtually physically untouchable by their radical counterparts. They might even try… middle of paper… who sees the non-violent teachings of Islam. They must also accept that there are violent parts of Islam to open up to religious reform. Those who blame Islam's problems on the United States and other foreign policies must stop ignoring the ideology that most of these problems are internal to Islam itself, as they only fuel the fire by spreading the rumor that the United States is the root of the problem. Radical Islam will require us to cooperate with each other rather than fight against each other. The responsibility to solve this problem is a joint responsibility that requires the cooperation of different groups and not just the actions of a single group. This also comes into play in finding out which organizations are responsible for which attacks and severely punishing the governments of Muslim states if they are found to be the cause of one of these attacks..
