In this article the author conducts research based on statistical data collected over two years and concludes that women in Morelos, Mexico have a significantly higher risk of suffering abuse during their pregnancy. The comparison with California, depicted in the article, shows that this state has a much lower rate of abuse against women. This research is important because it shows the extent of the difference that exists between cultures in countries even today. The attitude towards women is undoubtedly rooted in cultural specifics, and against the background of the first primary source such notions as emerged: low position of women in Mexico and situation of significantly better gender treatment in the United States. The secondary source used in this article is “Viva": Women and Popular Protest in Latin America by Sarah A. Radcliffe. This book offers a review of the historical change in Mexico in relation to the feminist movement largely caused by discrimination. The third ( Women, Environment and Politics in Venezuela) provides an explanation of the social phenomenon of the extremely low role of women in Hispanic society While the world was experiencing a boom in feminism (especially in the United States), Mexico still used antiquated beliefs about weakness and unworthiness. of
