In today's society we often ask ourselves whether it is worth it or not. According to Michelle Adam, many people “…today believe that getting a good education is the key to success in our society, this has revealed surprising issues that challenge the idea that higher education is worth the price” (59). Of course, many high school graduates apply to college right before or after graduation. Others decide to enter the workforce, the military or simply remain unemployed. The question many people debate is: is college worth it in the long term? Although some people believe that a college education can benefit one's career, others believe that it will cause a mass of debt and loans for undergraduate and graduate students and delay life events. Those who think a college education isn't worth it believe that college can become a setback in life because of the thousands of dollars college students spend on tuition and books. Students attending college will not have the money to buy a home, spend money on family, vacations, or any other expensive items and bills. On the other hand, most college students end up paying college loans their entire lives or get into debt. They will never have money to fall back on as their credit cards will accrue interest from college loans that need to be repaid. As stated by Paul Taylor in Michelle Adam's report, the cost of college education has reached a record high and the cost of tuition and fees has more than tripled, which is causing an increase in student debt (58). As prices rise, the economy is making it increasingly difficult for people to afford a college education.
