Descriptive:Description of FormOne of the major contrasts of form in this piece is the type of framing. Shot types are important to video composition because they give the work a sense of variety. This piece uses extreme close-ups, wide shots, medium shots, two shots, and multiple camera angles. This piece uses extreme close-ups to focus on an important aspect of the video. Close-up shots fill the entire composition to intensely focus on one main scene. A wide shot is used when the piece is transitioning to a new scene or foreshadowing what will happen in an upcoming scene. Medium shots are closer than a wide shot and are used to help the viewer become part of the action. A two shot example would be used when the shot has two people side by side or if the scene contains dialogue. Finally, different camera angles of high, low and eye level are used depending on the scene. Another main contrast of the form is the lighting. Three light sources were used in this piece, each with different brightness levels. The lights illuminate the set around the scene. In some scenes the lighting is dimmed, other times the light is closer to the camera, which makes the scene brighter. Lighting is also used to emphasize depth and also to enhance focal points. Lighting not only helps bring out important parts of the piece, but also enhances the composition. In addition to camera angles and light, another important visual feature of this piece is the focus of the lens. Some shots in the piece are intentionally in focus while other parts are intentionally blurry, broken and out of focus. When the video goes from focused to blurry, it depicts a scene of sleep and/or illness. Focusing on the… center of the paper… vibrant color would create greater contrast. Overall, it makes the images pop out of character. In contrast, the font size in the video was very different and more consistency with font and color was needed to attract the viewer's attention. When the viewer cannot read the information, it is useless and becomes a negative lift for the entire project. To modify these scenes I could work more on verbal communication. There are no words spoken to help convey the meaning. The viewer must interpret only from the actions. The last change I would make is to not overcomplicate the video. The video has many angles which become unimportant and confusing. For the next project I will simplify the camera angles and lighting. I need to take a step back from this project, learn from it, and make stronger work that has more positives than negatives.
