In 2009, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development collected data for each nation. China had the most hours of sleep, with more than 9 hours, while Japan had the fewest hours of sleep, with 7 hours and 14 minutes. Spain takes the most mid-day naps (Klein n.pag.). A study conducted by the Philips Center for Health and Well-Being found that the main cause of lack of sleep for people is due to stress and/or staying up late, “Most Americans (49%), of Indians (54%) and Singaporeans (43%) reported not getting enough z because they were too worried or stressed to sleep (Helena n.pag.).” However, Brazilians at 41%, Taiwanese at 63% and Germans at 55% suffer from sleep deprivation because they stay up late and then have to wake up.
