How many times have you appreciated things when you no longer have them? People usually don't know the value of having something in their life, until it's gone. That's when they realize how much it meant to them, because they start to miss it. Maybe because people think that whatever they have will be there for them forever, so they simply don't see the importance it has in their life and the impact not having it will have on them. There are many people in the world who don't have the security of returning to a place where they can get a good night's sleep, a hot shower, or a family waiting for you with open arms.
