Governance in the Digital Age Throughout history, humans have invented things that have changed the way we live our lives. These inventions will gradually impact more and more humans until they become an integral part of life. Humans can also invent some things beyond their control. Things like electricity and nuclear energy have changed life beyond what mortals can understand. Some will argue that such inventions elevate the human race to a new level, and as a result add new dimensions to the way we live, making us wonder how we lived before these inventions. The Internet is one of these things. It may have started as a new tool of digital communication technology, but it took us by surprise realizing the number of people it can reach, how quickly it can reach, and what implications it can bring or even impose on our lives. It created a new world beyond the traditional definition of society, government and law. The Internet has created a state of anarchy that neither humans nor the government can control. If we think of the Internet as an ocean, digital content will be the waves. Yes, digital technology is not the first technology invented by man, but the uniqueness comes from the possibility of being produced and consumed by everyone. So how much digital content is available on the Internet? “Today, there is enough information in the world to provide each living person with 320 times more than what historians believe was stored in the entire Alexandria collection, an estimated 1,200 Exabytes. If all this information were placed on CDs and stacked, it would form five separate piles that would all reach to the moon.” Internet connectivity frees you from the law of gravity in which your physical presence...... middle of paper ......secretary of state: “Responsible digital citizens know the technique to bring people to the streets, but they don't know what to do with it when they are in the streets." Digital opposition groups are mostly young and inexperienced in the political field. They can mobilize citizens and push them to oppose the dictatorship, but they fail to provide alternatives. As a result, citizens attracted to public squares are marginalized and even disillusioned due to a lack of vision for what comes next. Technology will continue to evolve to change our lives. No government has the power to slow it down. The more people are connected, the more ideas will be shared. Leaders will be pushed to address what truly matters to citizens. Having information about people's hopes and suffering will help leaders make plans to connect the present to the future.
