My best (and favorite) subject in school is mathematics. Ever since I was very little I have loved mathematics and put a lot of effort into it. When I don't fully understand the topics, I do additional problems to make sure they become clear to me. I spend a lot of time working on mathematics to ensure I understand the topics thoroughly. I have been attending math clubs since fourth grade, and in seventh grade I represented my school in the MathCounts® competition where I won two silver pins. I won the Virginia State Math Award in seventh grade and got an 800 in math on my SSAT this year. As a result of my hard work, I am currently one of three students at my school in the highest mathematics group, Precalculus. My greatest talent is the ability to delve deeper into topics that interest me, usually by reading them. For example, I became interested in how people become famous mathematicians so I read Men of Mathematics, a very long book that illustrates the lives of 30 different mathematicians. Additionally, a House character suffers from a degenerative disease, Huntington's chorea, a disease caused by having too many chromosomes. This sparked my interest in genetics. To learn more about genes I read a book called Genome, which had a chapter on each of the 23 chromosomes. Finally, in Physics we are learning about motion and vectors, but nothing abstract, so I decided to read A Brief History of Time. If I could dedicate a day to studying one topic, it would be geolocation. I became interested in geolocation when it came up as one of the applications for conics in my Precalculus course. When I realized that conics could be used for geolocation I went home to my father and asked him to teach me more about it. Finally, I managed to convince him to enter ... middle of paper ......ssey of the Mind for four years now and have won numerous awards. In 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade our team took 1st place in the Thomas Jefferson Invitational spontaneous competition. In fifth grade we came third at regionals, in sixth grade we won second, in seventh we came first at regionals, we advanced to states where we won first, and finally we won tenth place at worlds (on around 60 teams). we haven't competed yet this year, but we hope to do well. I would like to go to a school with a focus on math, science and technology because I have always been better at math, science and technology, and a school with this kind of focus would be able to provide me with the best. Most other schools would not be able to compensate for my level in mathematics and would not have the adequate facilities to assist me in my many experiments. Besides, if I get into a school like that, I will definitely go there.
