The group ensures that PHNs have the skills necessary to lead a care effort in the community. The COL emphasizes that public health nurses must have a strong ability to bring community leaders together to work on their community's health issues. Additionally, the COL defines public health nurses as “advocates, collaborators, educators, partners, policy makers, and researchers.” Moving forward, the COL urges public health nurses to increase public participation in maintaining their health and encourages PHNs to expand the creation of ethnically based programs to address community health problems. The COL anticipates that PHNs will continue to create positive patient outcomes in the community by continuing to do so
