There are others who disagree with people like me and don't believe that food advertising should be banned. When the AAP, CSPI and other companies criticized food advertisers and recommended a ban on television ads, others obviously had something to say on the issue. According to the article “AAP Urges Ban on TV Advertising of Baby Food” the author states that “GMA and others rejected CSPI's suggestion as early as June” (para.2) stating that “it was a rehash of the same arguments advanced by the same people” (par.2). The FTC said the AAP's recommendation goes too far and there is no need to ban food advertising. I think it is ridiculous for the FTC to say that these recommendations go too far and are unnecessary. You never go too far when you give recommendations that can only benefit our society and that's what I believe these companies were doing. There are overwhelming statistics that prove the point I favor. According to Bill McConnel “Today 15% of children aged 6 and over are overweight, more than double what they were twenty years ago” (1). These statistics have only increased as advertisers targeting a large percentage of young people have increased. Even worse, now more than ever, are conditions that were once limited to adults
