Topic > Racism in US Foreign Policy - 2165

Racism, is defined as the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially to distinguish it as inferior or superior to a other race or races (Oxford Dictionary, n.d.). Simply put, it is an idea where one group treats another in a negative way leading to the marginalization of one form towards another. One of the main bases of racism is the physical appearance of a person which tends to constitute discrimination in society. Not only physical aspects are judged, but culture, tradition and practices are also researched. In racism, it is always seen as the barrier between black and white in terms of who is more civilized. The majority perception is that if you are black you are at a low level but if you are white then you are of higher status than others (Fredrickson, 1934). Racism in US foreign policy is evident; it supposedly aims to serve and bridge the different races of the international community for a democratic, safe and prosperous world. The concept of racism is said to have originated within the last 500 – 1000 years. It all began when non-Westerners were dominated by Western powers who had a major impact on history; an example would be slavery started by Westerners where Africans were enslaved. The root cause was the racist belief that black Africans were less fully human than white Europeans and their descendants. Racism has existed throughout human history until today. It was able to influence wars, slavery, division and the formation of different nations. According to Aristotle “those who are as inferior to others as the body is to the soul, and beasts to... paper ......m is wrong as soon as possible can be of help in having a peaceful society. Researchers suggest that white people need to recognize the value of black people and forget what happened to colonialism because it all started where it started. Greed for power, exploitation and domination are the reasons why racism still exists today. Black people must also help themselves by believing that they are worthy and will not be left as slaves to white people. Biological differences between different races should not be considered a major basis for social acceptance and action. So unity between people is the main thing. Discrimination creates a barrier in communication between those who discriminate and vice versa. The problem of racism can be eliminated. However, it will take time for American foreign policy to resolve the situation through the joint effort of the people.
