Although reading has always come naturally to me (I scored an 800 on the reading portion of the SAT), I would inform others that I would prefer to have someone else write for me, since I was happy just reading. Unfortunately, that cute phrase didn't do much to ease my writing homework at school, and so I accepted the need to write, without falling in love with it. During my senior year, I began to truly understand that while reading was my passion, writing was a skill, one that would become even more important to me as I grew. The importance of writing, for me, can be summed up in one word: communication. Writing, in its most basic form, is the distillation of ideas into a format in which others can come to understand those ideas. Personally, my life “plan” is to become a wife, mother and English teacher. In each of these aspects, communication is vital, an integral part of the role. While I don't expect to write five-paragraph essays to my children every day, the skill of effective communication taught through writing can only improve my ability to share my ideas..
