When writers began to rebel, they tried to find ways around censorship. When censorship is involved, the ways writers and artists rebel become creative. Many writers ignored the Code Authority and there were many stories that were not published because the Code Authority did not allow it (Comics Code Authority). When the Comics Code Authority was active and strict, comic book characters were forced to deal with more enemies than science fiction. Batman writers had to focus on his detective skills and his relationships with the other characters in the Batman comics. The writers of the Superman comics created supervillains that Superman had to defeat using his brain, such as Brainiac.
