David M. Lodge's essay “'It's the Water, Stupid!'” states that the world needs to find a win-win situation and balance in the use of water resources for the environment , public health, and trade issues to ensure the safety of humans and halt dramatic changes in aquatic species and their environments. Lodge develops his point with environmental and public health statistics, as well as numerous references showing the relationship between the need for water resources to live and our environmental problems. Lodge discusses global water issues and the need for better water management in order to spread awareness about the topic as it is a neglected global problem. Lodge's essay is written in BioScience, which is read by educated people, but his essay seems to be aimed at a broader audience considering the weight of the issue and the easy readability of the piece. Lodge is a professor of biological sciences and director of the Center for Aquatic Conservation at the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on conversational biology and aquatic invasive species. Lodge also administers a number of committees and organizations that focus on invasive species, including directing the NSF-funded Integrated Systems for Invasive Species (ISIS) project (“David M. Lodge”). This article appears in the January issue of BioScience, a heavily edited, peer-reviewed journal of biology research and essays. Despite some of the complexity of the articles in BioScience, Lodge's thesis is significant for humanity, so the article was written for a wider audience. Lodge covers three important topics related to his thesis that are broad enough for anyone to understand,......middle of paper......his knowledge, executes his ideas very well on paper with examples and gimmicks, but his writing seemed to stutter at some points with inconsistencies in writing style. However, his essay is simple and intuitive enough to be understandable by a wide range of people. His sources on the topic are limited and only support his thesis, but common sense generally agrees that harming ourselves and/or the environment is not a good thing, even if sometimes we can't see it because we are blinded from greed. I found his piece insightful and interesting, but I can also take inspiration from his writing style and skill because he wrote a strong essay. Works Cited “David M.
