Topic > Analysis of Enron's Leadership Dilemma - 790

The general public in today's society only sees the outward appearance of large global corporations instead of looking at the inside and outside of all companies. For example, Enron, a US trading company, collapses in 2001. The energy trading company went bankrupt after being founded in 1999, the company's executive selected an accountant who ultimately dishonestly inflated the company's profits Enron. Many leaders within the Enron corporation stole large amounts of money over a period of time. This dilemma was seen as a poor performance of an unstable trading company. The dilemma shows that although there are people leaders in all societies, most leaders cannot be entrusted with great responsibilities. Choosing this real-life scandal educates me about what is happening in my business major and also opens my eyes to what essentially can happen in large corporations like Enron. Reflecting on this dilemma allows me to take a different approach. Wondering why those leaders weren't caught in the beginning? In a small business like a sporting goods store or grocery store, thefts are discovered and penalized for their wrong doings. This turns into a leadership dilemma: we are faced with questions about what Enron's leaders believed was right and wrong or in their heads what was right and right. Robbery, theft, and dishonesty in the workplace are all topics covered in different contexts in the Bible. Stealing is not only a sin, but it can take over the heart and cause a person to have immoral views “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.” (Matthew 15:19) The Ten Commandments state that there is no stealing, if the leaders of Enron had a new God and were in a relationship...... middle of paper .......A code of ethics and a code Morality is important because it establishes values that support the positions that a particular company expects from its employees, or values that a person expects from someone else. I believe that having applied ethics as a focus in life is an important priority, applied ethics easily tells us what is right and what is wrong. Every person goes through a stage in life where they learn the word no and yes, this is an example of applied ethics. Knowing that yes, this is the right choice and that no, I should walk away from it is very important. Applied ethics are given to each person through the process of growing and learning what is right and what is wrong. A personal moral philosophy does not have to be changed, you were given a foundation when you were young and it is up to you to decide whether to change it or keep the principles you already know.
