If this situation were to arise again, I would now be aware that every child is unique and is a conscious learner from birth who can be confident, resilient, capable and self-assured (DCSF, 2008 ). From this experience I learned how to use my communication skills with children who have language delays. I have learned that I need to be more assertive in terms of being able to deal with a situation from the first encounter where a child needs more support from me rather than thinking that I am not capable of it. This reflection has highlighted the need to increase my knowledge and understanding of the practice of communicating with children who have developmental delays and I will achieve this through more practice that I can learn from
