Not many people knew what a vegan was. Veganism was a completely new idea and only started to gain momentum in the last few years. A man named Donald Watson, originally from England, was the first person to found the vegan movement in 1944. This vegan movement emphasized the moral, spiritual, social, health, and economic benefits of being vegan. Watson realized he would never eat meat again when he saw a pig being slaughtered on the family farm, and he hadn't done so in seventy-eight years (Rodger 1). Dedicating yourself to a vegan lifestyle can be a challenging thing to do due to the world we live in. “Veganism means living exclusively on the products of the plant kingdom, excluding meat, fish, poultry, animal milk and all dairy products. food products (cheese, butter, yogurt, etc.), eggs, honey and all other foods of animal origin (Stepaniak 19).” In November 1944, the Vegan Society decided to publish a manifesto. It stated that no human being should consume meat and animal products and that society wanted to end man's dependence on animals. The Vegan Society also wants to enlighten people about how slaughterhouses and dairy farms are incredibly inhumane (Stepanaik 4-5). The design of our bodies is a factual representation of why humans should not be meat eaters. When comparing humans to other carnivores the differences are extremely obvious. Most people don't like killing animals with their bare hands, tearing up their raw meat and eating it right away. They don't think about killing and eating prey all day, and the thought of a dead animal makes your mouth water. For true carnivores it's all true. However, for most humans the sight of fresh blood and intestines is disgusting,...... middle of paper... not to be stopped. Cows are also one of the most abused animals in our world today. A cow's natural lifespan is up to twenty-five years, however on a farm they barely last up to five years. Twenty years of life is stolen from these poor animals just to serve humans.
