There are three main changes in the sculptural development of ancient Greece: archaic, classical and Hellenistic. Each major change is unique and has its own characteristics based on how the Greeks perceived their natural and supernatural environment. The first important period in the sculptural development of Ancient Greece is the Archaic period. The Archaic period in the times of Ancient Greece took place between 600 and 480 BC. The main focus of the artists of this period was the idea of the human figure. The key example of sculpture from this period is Kouros, which is a life-size sculpture of the naked male standing with his arms lowered to his sides and with one foot forward. Another example of sculpture from this period is Kore. Kore is a dressed female sculpture. The unique characteristics of sculptures from this period were enlarged eyes and smiling faces. Personal feelings were reflected in art. Additionally, the Archaic period introduced red-figure vases and temples. It was one of the most famous themes of vase painting.
