Affective variables are variables such as values, self-esteem and attitude towards learning. Although cognitive variables are necessary for teaching, many forget the importance of affective variables when planning and implementing instruction or curriculum. Although content teaching is important for student education and learning, without affective assessment, students will not benefit greatly from the content learned. Assessing the affective variable in the classroom allows students not only to grow as students, but as people and citizens, which is equally important. Intellect is not how you succeed.
