The conflict between creationism and the theory of evolution is what is believed in science compared to religion. The difference between the two beliefs is how living things, especially humans, have come to live in the environment in the present time. The two beliefs also present two different views on how the universe was likely created at the beginning of time. The challenge posed by this two-sided argument is whether only one or both ideas should be taught in schools, and which is the most logical idea to help determine how life has become today. Parents on both sides want their children to learn one idea, and eliminate the other idea from the classroom. In general, more and more people in the United States are creationists, but with the scientific theory of evolution, schools all over the United States are teaching the theory. US public belief in creationism is higher than in other countries such as the Netherlands. “A recent survey on the acceptance of the theory of evolution shows that around 60% of the Dutch population believes that the theory of evolution is (probably) true, a much higher percentage than for example in Turkey (30%) or the United States (40%) , but lower than that of other secularized European countries such as Denmark or France (about 80%)” (qtd. in Flipse 105). The influence of religion or evolution is unique in the world, as demonstrated by statistics from some countries. Creationism is the idea that the entire universe was created by a being more powerful than anything that exists in the universe. It is the oldest belief about how living things came to be in known history. Most religions in modern times believe in that one being, or in the belief of a monotheistic being. Many of the Bible readings in the Christian community bring the... medium of paper... to school for all students. By having a better general knowledge of both subjects, the student will have a better overview of the evolution of the planets. The biblical explanation for the beginning of the universe may be a little far-fetched, but that doesn't eliminate the existence of a higher being. Nothing has been proven yet, but the main goal should be to educate students on the best possible reasons for life's existence. “The honest scientist, like the philosopher, will tell you that nothing can be or has been proven with 100% certainty, not even that you or I exist, nor anyone except himself, since he could dream everything” (Morano). There are more and more scientific studies on space according to which there must have been a “Big Bang”. One could theorize that the Big Bang was the all-powerful creationist being they believe started the universe.
