Topic > Violence in Tamar's Cry by Pamela Cooper-White

I wish I could say that we can find a way to stop the violence, however unfortunately it will happen and we cannot stop every person from being abused. But this text allowed us to understand how churches can respond to these acts effectively to allow the victim to heal and move forward. Being a clergy or pastor helping someone in these trying times is difficult, and White says they "should expect feelings of helplessness, overwhelm, and dislike as a normal part of the challenge of this job." (City of Tamar, 195). When dealing with these traumatized victims, they look for a way to forget, and as a pastor, clergy, or counselor, you look for a way to help deal with the situation. I have found that the most effective way to help someone in these situations is empowerment. I agree that it's also important to make sure you help the victim understand that it's not their fault that this happened and that you believe them. You need to build trust with the victims so that they can trust that you are actually theirs
