Task 2- Tip no. 1According to Socrates in Plato's Republic, justice is a virtue that allows the soul to carry out its function well. This justice is chosen both for itself and for its consequences. Every human soul has three parts, a spirit, a reason and an appetite. When the soul functions correctly, its virtues are right. Education makes the soul moral in nature. Musical education and physical training contribute to the soul and body. In this essay I will explain how through education a soul can become truly righteous, contributing to a healthy balance of spirit, reason, and appetite within the soul. Socrates believes that through the virtue of justice, an individual's soul will perform its function GOOD. Virtue has the definition of a trait or characteristic that allows a thing to perform its function. With this virtue a soul is able to function in such things as governing, deliberating and living. These functions of the soul are unique only to the soul. The soul of a righteous person is balanced between its three parts, spirit, reason and appetite. A person's spirit works like reasoning. Rational calculation is the second part of the soul, which has the task of governing. Appetites function like our thirsts and desires. When all these functions are in balance a right person is able to live "blissfully and happily". Those who are blessed and happy find justice in doing their work; this is because "justice should be loved both for itself and for its consequences by anyone who is about to be blessed". When parts of the soul perform natural functions, this creates health in the body. For example, we choose health because we don't want to get sick, and... middle of paper... we support the guardians with their reason. Finally, appetites are our thirsts and our desires. Farmers and producers satisfy appetites because they satisfy those needs. The idea of ​​function plays the role of when there is justice in the soul; the soul and the city can live "blissfully and happily". Socrates' statement is interconnected through education providing a just soul, allowing a just soul to function properly, enabling justice in individuals and the city. This essay talked about how education is a vital step in creating a just soul and how with a just soul creates a just city. This musical education and physical preparation allows the guardians to contain a prudence regarding what is good for the city as a whole. And when there is love for the city, this allows Socrates to be accountable for justice, which means doing one's job. A just soul is a happy soul.
