DNA Replication and MutationThe genetic material of eukaryotic cells is essential for cell survival. Genetic material, in the form of strands of DNA, must be replicated every time the cell divides. Replication is a necessary process for the maintenance of eukaryotic life because it allows the creation of new cells with almost identical genetic material. Without the correct genetic material, cells would not produce the correct cellular components and would therefore die because each component has a specific purpose for the cell's survival.
