It should be clear that the consent of the people is essential for a government to be able to govern them. In essence, this serves to demonstrate that no form of government can be in power if the individual people do not agree. The common exception, however, is in the case of tyranny and dictatorial rule, where citizens are forced to obey orders, which in most cases leads to revolutions. Evidently, democracy is the best way through which a people can be governed, as it gives them a chance and a voice in the larger governance and undertakings of the country as a whole (Ndou, 2004, p 18). Historical data can attest to this fact, as there have been numerous rebellions against dictatorial leaders, all in favor of democracy. The current difficult situation of low democracy in various developing countries has, however, raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of this form of government. . The impending factors range from social ones to those linked to economic orientation. The media, public information and self-interest groups are seen as the most critical aspects challenging the growth of democracy in developing countries. However, all hope is not lost, as many countries that currently have true democracy have found themselves in such situations at some point. All the obstacles to democratization discussed are ones that can be reversed and changed to improve the situation. However, it would be a lie to glibly state that change will come easily. Much effort must be made to ensure that all affected or potential areas are treated promptly. As a result, such developing countries will be at least on par with other developed countries in terms of democracy.
