The reason I decided to pursue a career in social work stems from my seemingly innate desire to see others achieve their potential. Although it sounds a bit cliché, my passion and desire for the field of social work comes from a genuine desire to make a positive difference in people's lives. The one thing I always knew I wanted to do with my life is help people. I am applying to work as a shadow social worker because essentially making a difference in people's lives is the most important aspect of a future career for me, more than any other. This is definitely an area I would like to explore further. My reasons for wanting to become a social worker are quite varied, the main one being to assist people to realize their potential and help them achieve their goals, and at this stage in my life I believe that the experiences I have gained are extremely transferable into terms of working with the general public; but overall I can now offer the social work profession and its clients a committed and caring attitude.
