The Bible, a foundational collection of Christian texts, contains the fundamental principles and core beliefs of the faith. To say that the Bible has authority is to say that what the Bible says about how one should live one's life is true and should be followed. To ultimately understand why the Bible has authority one must look directly to God. HD McDonald in his excerpt from the Evangelical Dictionary of Theology, states that "the authority of the Bible is established by its own statements." This means that the words written in the Bible do not strictly belong to the person who wrote them since the words come from God Himself. The writer simply acted as a scribe. Many times the Bible states that God is perfect and blameless, therefore, being the supreme power, he has authority over his people and models the expectations he has for them.
