“ ...The love of young people then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes.”, states Friar Laurence in the play Romeo and Juliet when he understands their love ( 2.3. 67-68). Romeo and Juliet, a play written by William Shakespeare that portrays a fateful love story of two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, in opposite families in Verona, Italy. It is recognized as the most beautiful and touching love story in history in dramaturgy, but is it true? True feelings of love are like a tree. It may not be as whimsical and stunning as a rose can be, nor can it be grown as quickly as a zinnia, but it is stable and provides shade to rest in and bark to lean on. Therefore, the acts of Romeo and Juliet are not based on true love, because Shakespeare portrays Romeo and Juliet in the process of infatuation, the premature love that often completely sweeps the couple away with unreasonable love and mutual passion. Initially, the love between Romeo and Juliet occurs an incredibly short period of time which interrupts the development of their emotions. Romeo feels the emotion of love towards Juliet at the exact moment he meets Juliet. Although he claims to love only Rosaline, and without her he would die that very morning, as soon as he sees Juliet, he becomes fascinated by her beauty and gives her ownership of his heart. The transition between Rosaline and Juliet happened too quickly and, since it is love at first sight, they are unable to fully grow the seed of love. Likewise, they get married the day after they meet. They simply know their faces and names, but they rush into marriage anyway, the final commitment to another is hastened by their reckless commitment to fulfilling the... middle of paper... y, Juliet is willing to kill herself if she separates from Romeo. He threatens the friar with his life, carries out a risky plan that involves faking his own death and following Romeo's death. They could have made better choices, but the immediate craving had poisoned their brains and taken away their stability. So, in the end, it is visible how Romeo and Juliet made choices out of infatuation, what they mistook for the emotion of love. Because they took their desire for another to extremes, it had resulted in countless deaths in the play. Unfortunately there are many couples who mistake crush for genuine love and follow in the dangerous footsteps of Romeo and Juliet even today. It may be confusing and easily confused, but remember that true love is like a grown tree, supportive and comforting. Works Cited Romeo and Juliet
