IntroductionHow did Edvard Munch perceive anxiety?Edvard Munch, a world-famous Norwegian painter, was able to express his repressed feelings of fear and anxiety on a canvas with a skill that both amazed and frightened the people of the world. He used his anxiety about life, love and death to inspire people and make them see the problems in his life. Edvard Munch is best known for his works "The Scream" and "Madonna". Munch's popularity is due to his extraordinary ability to convey a deep and raw emotion from the unconscious onto the canvas, leaving viewers to interpret, feel and reflect on it. He distinguished himself from other artists of his time, as he departed from the norms and focused on feelings and the state of the work, rather than on details and perfection. Anxiety evolved as the main point of Munch's art. This essay traces Edvard Munch's childhood by focusing on the events that caused him anxiety, how anxiety influenced his relationship with women and love, and how his idea of anxiety was supported by Søren's theories Kierkegaard. These elements serve as support for the analysis of three of his works 'Evening on Karl Johan', 'Melancholy' and 'The Woman in Three Phases'. This essay should be seen as a work in the field of Visual Arts as it analyzes three works by Munch focused on anxiety. The analysis will contain an analysis of the form, content and context of each of the works. After attending the exhibition Edvard Munch: Angst/Anxiety at the AROS Museum of Art in Aarhus, Denmark, I found and developed curiosity and inspiration for this essay. I find it worthy of study that Munch changed the vision and concept of art and provided the public with a concept of art that was not the norm around the 19th century......middle of paper..... .
