Donatello, of the early Renaissance, created the first nude sculpture since ancient Greece and Rome. Michelangelo, of the High Renaissance, embodied the athletic male nude by studying the human body. Although these two artists portrayed the same character, there are many distinctions between them. Donatello depicted the victorious David after defeating Goliath. He used Goliath's sword to defeat him. On the other hand, Michelangelo depicted David as a humble warrior, patiently waiting for his enemy. In his left hand is the weapon he started with: the slingshot. “Michelangelo moves away from the traditional way of representing David. He does not present us with the victor, with the giant's head at his feet and the powerful sword in his hand, but portrays the young man in the phase immediately preceding the battle" (Krén and Marx). Michelangelo and Donatello had some techniques in common in their sculptures. The first would be the opposing position in which their statues are located. Another would be the way their sculptures stand alone. This means that both are able to stand without any additional support. As a result, the two prevailed as artists and gave true meaning to the Renaissance.
