Say yes to gun controlWhat would make you feel safer? Walking the streets knowing that people can carry guns around voluntarily or knowing that people can't carry guns around voluntarily and that there are strict rules and regulations for owning a gun? I would opt for the second option. America has some of the highest-rated gun-related crimes and murders. If you eliminate the option to allow people to own guns, perhaps there will be fewer gun-related incidents. Yes, you can still be able to get guns from places, but it will also limit the list of people with firearms. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. It takes action and movement to pull the trigger. It takes even more action to pick up and hold that gun and point it at someone. In conclusion, I am for gun control, gun control laws can reduce crime, reduce deaths, and most importantly, protect children. First, America has some of the poorest and weakest gun control laws and regulations. That said, countries like England and Japan have the strictest gun control laws. They also have the lowest number of firearm-related homicides (Ballaro 2). In some parts of Japan, the police there also do not carry weapons. If Japan can enforce its laws without guns, why can't we? America has a rate of 3.42 firearm-related homicides, which is also 100% higher than Japan and England (Ballaro 2). From the historical experience of the American western frontier, the more weapons people have at their disposal, there will only be more deaths and shootings. In 1997, Britain enacted a law requiring all civilians to hand over any privately owned guns to the police (Agresti and Reid 2). “Experts estimate that about one-third of all American households have firearms, and that the total number of firearms around......is not necessary for hunting and killing animals. Replacing bullets with tranquilizer darts can be just as effective. Therefore, there are many laws that can work for both people who are for and against gun control. Following these laws can reduce deaths and crimes. Bottom line, gun control is something America needs to work on. We have some of the worst rated homicides and gun crimes compared to the rest of the world. Gun control can protect and save the lives of many children. Stronger laws and regulations can reduce gun-related crimes and deaths. The facts and numbers have increased in the last two years and at this rate the situation will neither decrease nor improve. Stricter gun control may not stop gun violence everywhere, but it's a start to reducing it as much as possible. Additionally, some gun control laws may be simple and compromise with anti-gun control laws.
