Nurses are considered the backbone of the hospital due to their hours of hard work and determination to help patients. Being a nurse is a great opportunity for people to show the world what they can do and get involved to make a difference. A nursing career can help you gain more self-confidence. There are many types of nurses, but we will focus on registered nurses (RNs) because nurses are the primary link between doctors and patients. Registered nurses have long hours, many daily tasks, and even influence other nurses by guiding them in their careers. However, they are rewarded with a good salary and the knowledge that they saved lives that day. There are three different ways to become a nurse. You can become a diploma nurse, which are programs offered by nursing schools owned and operated by hospitals. “Employees in these occupations usually require one to two years of training that includes both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.” (INF Ohio). These programs will teach you the minimum training needed to qualify for a registered nurse license, however, this is the quickest and most economical way to become an RN. Another way to obtain your registered nurse license is to obtain a bachelor's degree in nursing (AD). This degree is offered by any community or state college and usually takes two to four years to complete. Both qualifications allow you to take the NCLEX-RN exam, which is the test that determines whether or not you can become licensed. However, with an ADN, you can attend school more to get your BSN. The third option is to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Unlike the other two paths, it takes four years to complete, but it has but...... middle of paper ......diagnosis and if you are not compassionate, the patient's loved ones may feel as if they have no one to take care of them. However, all the stress aside, it is also a very rewarding job. At the end of the day, you can go home with pride knowing that you saved someone's life today. You have made a difference in your patients' lives and will see a brighter future as they recover. Works Cited Hultgren, Marianne. “Why a BSN?” Nursing care. Np, February 5, 2014. Web.
