Jewelry is a wonderful way to display our favorite gems. Or maybe a lovely amulet? Or something that a special person gave you? In any case, we can admit that it is very special. So I just imagine that the ancient civilization of Rome decorated their necks, ears and wrists with elaborate and gorgeous accessories. However, what kind of jewelry did they wear? Who was allowed to wear the shiny pendants? What were they made of? What were your favorite materials to make them? The ancient civilization of Rome hides many secrets that have been discovered over the years, with many questions answered, along with my own. Resources for ancient Roman jewelry were usually brought from the European and Mediterranean continents. Since ancient Rome had a great trade route, they were even able to obtain more materials for their jewelry along the Silk Road, which ran through East Asia. Pearls brought from the Persian Gulf were used as popular gemstones in ancient Roman jewelry. Additionally, emeralds and peridots were used from Egypt, as well as carnelian, jasper, lapis lazuli, and onyx from Persia. Gold was a popular material in all forms of jewelry in ancient Rome. Snake bracelets were a popular form of jewelry to wear, because snakes were the symbol of fertility and immortality and were intended to warn of evil . These snake bracelets were usually made of gold. There were also torques. Torques were often worn by Roman warriors, priests and noblewomen. Torques were circular, necklace-like jewelry that were worn tightly around the neck.
