Classification of various power sources for a car: petrol, diesel and electricity Most people today fill their cars with different grades of petrol , because that's what the average car consumes. They usually don't consider an alternative to the gasoline they put in their cars. Although gasoline is widely used, it is not the only source from which a car draws energy; diesel and electricity are alternatives to the general gasoline used by most cars. Although different from each other, diesel and electricity are alternatives to the average gasoline received at a gas station. Diesel is a more concentrated type of fuel that is usually used by large cars because they require a lot of power in a short amount of time. Electricity is a method that uses battery power to produce a low-power but still fast automobile. Electric cars are generally designed to be quiet and environmentally friendly. The purpose of this article is to classify and educate the reader about the different types of fuel available for use in an automobile: gasoline, diesel, and electricity. General gasoline, used by most people, is usually the only type of fuel accepted by the average car in the United States today. General gasoline, more commonly known as gasoline, is the most readily available source of energy for your car today. This is because gasoline is generally cheap and easily available. Gasoline is defined by Poltcor as a "petroleum-derived liquid mixture consisting primarily of aliphatic hydrocarbons and enriched with the aromatic hydrocarbons toluene, benzene or isooctane to increase the octane number, used primarily as a fuel in internal combustion engines" (Poltcor 3) . Today, most cars rely on this type of gasoline. At gas stations, the general grades available are 87, 89, and 93. Each of the numbers represents the quality of the gasoline, 87 being the lowest, usually referred to as Regular, and 93 being the highest, usually referred to as Supreme. In general, gas prices in the United States are cheaper than abroad. However, the price of gas has increased in recent years due to some problems with the Middle East. Even with this problem in the Middle East regularly increasing the price of gas, the United States maintains its ranking as one of the cheapest places to get gas, or gasoline. Even though petrol is cheap, everyone requires to have a car and since cars depend on petrol, petrol stations have the advantage that the public is willing to pay high prices for petrol if it is the cheapest around..
