Social Security: America Needs a Solution A divorced single mother of two works a minimum-wage job that doesn't pay the cost of survival. This mother not only has to take care of herself, but she also has children who need shelter, nourishment, and stability. For this to be possible, help is needed. Most people, especially fathers, are too proud to ask for help because of image. Being on welfare promotes the image of ego renunciation that one cannot provide for oneself or one's family. But is the image more important than life itself? Children are dying of hunger or dehydration because their parents cannot afford decent meals or purified water. Children die of diseases because their parents cannot afford a home that protects them from the cold. Some of these parents work forty hours a week or more for minimum wage and still cannot afford the necessities of a healthy life. Some parents are unable to find work due to a lack of qualifications. The government provided resources to disadvantaged people; however, there are still issues that need to be addressed. Social welfare is not a discouragement, it is a help. There is no reason why lives should be shortened due to the inability to access government assistance. Social welfare benefits America as a whole because it serves as a crutch for the financially handicapped and provides motivation to work harder for a better lifestyle. Social welfare was born in 1935. Before that, the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression service agencies would find themselves overwhelmed by high unemployment rates and welfare needs. “Between 1929 and 1932, about a third of the country's private agencies disappeared for lack of f... half of paper... and were paid more and self-governing, having the freedom to be independent. Once having a job and adequate education becomes a priority, you can eventually exit government assistance because you have a solid foundation to live comfortably and happily. Then others will be able to do the same thing. It's a cycle, more and more people get on government assistance, so why can't more and more people get off it? The point is, people can get off financial aid… with the right resources provided. If there are no resources, people won't make the effort to get off welfare because they have nothing to work towards, which makes it easier to rely on the government. For some, welfare is a sign of weakness or inaction, but no one should have to. being denied the help they need. A life should not be cut short due to starvation, dehydration, or disease that can be stopped with government help.
