One of the most influential people in modern biology and geology is Charles Darwin. His advancements in the fields still have an impact to this day. His theory of natural selection caused a sensation in the scientific community around the world. Darwin's theories and studies are still a subject of conflict. Many Christians still dispute his theories, remaining strong in their ideas of creationism. Biographical information On February 12, 1809, one of the most respected and controversial scientists ("Charles Darwin") was born. Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, to a family of eight ("Charles Darwin"). He was the second youngest of the children and was a child of great wealth and privilege ("Charles Darwin"). Darwin was born into a long line of scientists (“Charles Darwin”). At the age of eight, Darwin's mother Susanna died (“Charles Darwin”). In 1817, at the age of sixteen Darwin was sent to a day school in Shrewsbury (Scientific Biography 565). While there it was established that Darwin was a slow learner (Scientific Biography 565). In 1818 Darwin was enrolled at Shrewsbury School under the supervision of Dr. Samuel Butler (Scientific Biography 565). While there the curriculum focused on the classics, some ancient history, and geography (Scientific Biography 565). Charles claimed that school had taught him nothing and stated, "School as a means of education to me was simply a void." (Scientific Biography 565). Darwin was publicly reprimanded by the headmaster for wasting time on chemical experiments (Scientific Biography 565). In 1825 he was removed from Shrewsbury School and began medical studies at the University of Edinburgh (Scientific Biography 565). Because of his revulsion for blood, Darwin was... at the center of the paper... is the theory of natural selection. Creationism is still widely accepted and defended by Christians.
