JPMorgan Chase is one of the oldest functioning financial institutions in America today, dating back over 200 years. JPMorgan Chase is currently the largest bank in the United States with total assets estimated at $2.5 trillion. They have branches in over 60 countries and employ over 260,000 people. The company was founded in 2000, when Chase Manhattan Corporation and JP Morgan & Co. merged. However, Chase Manhattan Corporation was formed in 1995 when the Bank of Manhattan Company purchased Chase National Bank. The Bank of Manhattan Company, however, was founded in 1799, tracing JPMorgan Chase's roots to the late 18th century. JPMorgan Chase is the result of the merger and acquisition of more than 1,200 predecessor institutions, the most notable of which include JP Morgan, Chase Manhattan, Chemicals, Hanover Manufacturers and Detroit National Bank.
