Heroes and Monsters - Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The theme is Heroes and Monsters. Doctor Jekyll qualifies for both titles. A hero is someone who is seen as someone who takes on an occasion that other people fear. Furthermore, a person does not necessarily have to be a hero to a large number of people, being a hero to one person is quite important. A monster is considered the hero's enemy. The word monster can mean several things, but the main definition is something or someone who is evil and has no remorse for his actions. Doctor Jekyll falls into the category of heroes because of his struggle to rid himself of the evil in man. He does this by inventing a potion that will destroy the evil in the mind and body to create a perfect and righteous human being. Dr. Jekyll has a great cause in his battle because he has experienced this evil firsthand. Since no one knows about his plan, for now he is just a hero to himself. Doctor Jekyll is also considered a monster. When Jekyll takes his potion, evil takes over his body and his entire personality changes. He transforms from a hero into a monster. He starts hurting people and causing problems. The worst part is that he even likes his transformation and has no mercy or remorse even though he knows what he does is wrong. For example, he starts a fight in a bar and laughs about it as if it were a joke. When he starts letting Ivy live with him, he does much more damage than at the bar. It not only hurts her physically but mentally. He makes Ivy believe that he will counteract anything she does wrong in a heartbreaking way. Ivy is afraid to leave the house when he's not there and she's afraid to talk about him to her friends. The end result was his death. The difference between the two sides of Doctor Jekyll is mainly that one is evil and the other is good. While Beatrice is gone and Jekyll stays with Ivy in Hyde's house, he remains Hyde for a long period of time. This is because being Hyde becomes like a drug for him. He loves to be evil. Towards the end, when he is on his way to the wedding party, Jekyll believes that he and the people around him are safe because he vows to never drink the potion. He doesn't know that evil has taken over his body and can take over when he feels the slightest emotion. Ultimately he tried to protect the people he loved by telling them they could no longer see him. Then he transformed and almost killed them. Once his friend realized what it was, he knew he had to help Dr. Jekyll. When Hyde was about to attack him, his friend knew he had to kill him. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were now dead.
