In the Balkans there were Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Albania, Hungary and, of course, Yugoslavia. Most of the nations in this center were under the rule of the Ottoman Turkish Empire. The geography of the Balkans was mainly characterized by mountains, rivers and the fact that it was a peninsula. Yugoslavia was located on the western side of the peninsula, along the Adriatic Sea.
