Topic > Differences between the publication of popular news and...

Information can be manipulated in various forms. The format of information in both popular news publications (Article A) and an academic journal (Article B) is slightly different, but in terms of information content it has several similarities even though it comes from different authors' backgrounds. Article A also known as popular magazine and usually includes recreational, news and opinion magazines. Recreational magazines are written for general entertainment. An example of a recreational magazine is The Malaysian Women's Weekly. Article B contains articles written by experts in a specific discipline. Articles present original research, reviews of research, or theoretical positions. Each discipline has its own academic journals. An example of a B Article is Medical Hypotheses which can be retrieved from the Science Direct online database. Features of Article A. The topic covered in the Beauty Report segment of Article A concerns “stem cells”. This article was written by a journalist named Melati Kesuma Kamaruddin. She is a senior fashion and beauty editor for a weekly women's magazine. By reading this article the reader will find neither footnotes nor bibliography or sources. It is impossible for the journalist to write the article without referring to or being guided by authoritative sources. So the content of the information in this article is rather ambiguous. However, the language used in this article was easy for the audience to understand. Additionally, Article A usually includes glossy pages, lots of images, and advertisements. Since its purpose is general entertainment, the presentation format is interesting with colorful fonts, the presence of the model's face and product, and so on. After reading this article, the journalist is found as... in the middle of the paper... affiliation or credentials, while they are not available in article A. The author's credentials are important for readers so that they can feel trusted sources and read the entire article continuously. From the detailed explanation of the popular news publication and academic journal, it can be seen that there are many differences between them, even though they covered the same topic. It depends on readers' decision on what material they prefer to read, based on their needs and preferences. Works Cited Melati Kesuma Kamaruddin. (2011, February).
