In Machiavelli's The Prince he lists seven of the characteristics that he believes a leader must have to be a good leader. However, some of these tenants had conflicts regarding the lack of consideration for true human nature. One of the tenants specifically said: "Virtue can ruin a person, and vice can lead to success." This statement seems logical at first glance, but as you delve deeper into the actual meaning of tenant, you realize that it is more complex and misleading than before. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of virtue is “morally good behavior and character”. So how can good behavior and good character ruin a person? Some people might argue that if you are too benevolent, you might give away most of your money to other people. But when you look at the definition, it says that it is morally good behavior. So, by saying this, the person who gave away his money is satisfied with what he did for a reason, making oneself a better person. How can this ruin a person? Is personal happiness harmful?...
