Topic > Reflection: the importance of diversity in spoken discourse

The diversity of the audience certainly affects how the speech will be received. That's why when preparing for a speech it's important to develop and present your speech in a way that exemplifies your thoughts and ideas while still resonating with your audience. You should create an appropriate speech for the audience to ensure you keep their attention and focus. In this course I learned a lot about how diversity affects language. I don't think I had the chance to fully address a very diverse audience, but by seeing many speeches by prominent speakers I was able to see in depth how they articulated their speeches to a diverse audience. For example, for my persuasive speech I presented on the topic of chess. I don't think everyone will like that speech, but I tried to talk about it in a positive and fun way. You need to be aware of all aspects of diversity when speaking to an audience, whether it is a small or very large group. Understanding the needs of all genders, their ethnicity and other personal beliefs will make you a better and more respected person
