It is evident that nurses face many challenges while becoming and being nurses. As in any profession, there are some aspects that are more difficult to achieve, but this does not allow us to minimize the importance of these demanding tasks. I see barriers in communication between nurses as one of the main challenges nurses will face. Why? Because there is so much for nurses to talk about. Nurses always talk, if not to each other, then at least to patients and family. There are skills that a nurse can learn and study, but I believe that communication is a skill that must be acquired through practice and will only improve with experience. I have discovered just a few examples of how a lack of communication between nurses is very likely to occur if adequate knowledge of English literature is lacking (Paul 2013). Hou, Chang, Chan, and Dykes further support my idea of ​​language as a major challenge in communication by discussing how it has been a struggle to create standard medical terminology to help create a universal understanding of nursing (2013). For example, nurses from another country may need to learn English. Additionally, the challenge of recognizing how you interact with another individual and why is very important. If you can master it, communication between individuals will most likely be effective. Communication is a skill that requires many other skills such as the ability to be empathetic, understanding, compassionate, a therapeutic listener, and more. If a nurse does not take the time to learn these important aspects of communication, disrespect, misunderstanding and prejudice will most likely occur, creating barriers to achieving effective communication with their colleagues. It would be helpful to create appropriate English requirements for students enrolling in nursing, to ensure that everyone has the same level of proficiency. While it is difficult to meet these requirements for people who have a dominant language other than English, there is progress in making standard translation and terminology more understandable.
