IntroductionPornography is an issue that has generated serious speculation; it has gone from a state of insignificance to a major social issue in most of the world. The period since the early 1960s has been labeled the wave of modern pornography. It is a period that has seen great discussions on all aspects of the phenomenon, from the terminology, to the definitions, to the level of sexual content, to the economic impact and, above all, its effects. This article seeks to address the issue of pornography from the perspective of male participation, consumption and related issues. The paper includes a review of two articles; the first article is an academic article from a peer-reviewed journal, while the second is a popular media article. Both articles are compared from the perspective of how they address the issue of male pornography; the article attempts to distinguish both approaches as it demonstrates the importance of using academic articles over media articles.Article 1: US Male and Pornography, 1973 – 2010This article was authored by Paul J. Wright of the University of 'Indiana, Department of Telecommunications. Wright argues that while social scientific research on the effects of pornography consumption among males may be highly debated, it may not have focused on testing the feminist perspective that pornography exacerbates sexual aggression against women. Assumes that previous research could have addressed pornography use among males; however, they have overlooked the permissive approach to sexual affairs (Wright, 2013). Methods In the study, Wright applied a cross-sectional social survey to data spanning 1973 to 2010. He applied GSS surveys that examined social issues among adults aged 18 and older. a… middle of paper… concluding that exposure to pornography would exacerbate engagement in unprotected sex and having multiple sexual partners. It can also be concluded that academic articles are a reliable source of information based on the premise that the standards used are standardized, use scientific approaches and the results are further reviewed by professionals within a given discipline. However, popular media articles may be applicable among the general public or average readers who may not understand the jargon and complexity seen with academic articles. ReferencesKutchinsky, B.
